National 5 Music

National 5 is the first specialised qualification in the Senior Phase pathway. Building on the skills developed in S1-S3, this one-year SQA course challenges pupils across three balanced components: Performing (50%), where you build an 8-minute programme on two instruments/voice; Understanding Music (35%), which refines your critical listening ear; and Composing (15%), where you create an original piece of music. It is a fantastic opportunity to sharpen practical musicianship and creative thinking, paving the way for Higher-level study.
